The word page is dense: it can contain up to ten blocks. Let's go through them from top to bottom — not all of them appear every time, and that is normal.
Tabs above the heading
If a word has tabs, it means this spelling occurs more than once.
There are two possible reasons, separated by a line:
- Different analyses of the same spelling. A word might have come from the thai-language.com dictionary, the Royal Institute dictionary, or an AI analysis — each source provides its own article. The tab is labeled with the beginning of the meaning, so you can see the one you need immediately.
- Tone variations — the same letters, but different tone marks: สวน and ส่วน. These are different words, and they are easy to confuse, which is why they are shown side by side.
A checkmark ✓ on the tab means the article has been verified by an editor.
Heading
Word and tone line
The Thai word itself is shown in large type, and tone contours are drawn above the letters — one for each syllable. Hover over a syllable to see an explanation of where that tone comes from. → Romanization and tones
Sometimes a second line appears under the word labeled "Thai reading transcription." This is necessary when the reading does not follow directly from the spelling: ราชการ is read as ราด-ชะ-กาน, and the tone contours refer specifically to this transcription, not the original spelling.
If there is no such line, the word is read as written.
Parts of speech
Next to the heading are gray parts-of-speech labels: noun, verb, classifier, and so on. A word may have several; details will be provided below in the "Meanings" block.
Reading transcriptions
Below the heading are:
- Latin — thai-language.com format, with a tone letter after each syllable;
- Cyrillic — the same reading using Russian letters;
Audio
If the word has audio, a player will appear under the reading transcriptions. If there is no audio and you are logged in, there will be a 🔊 voice button: it synthesizes the pronunciation and saves it to the article permanently, including for other readers.
The 🔊 Voice buttons next to the Thai lines only work after logging in.
Verification mark
The gray label indicates the type of entry (word, phrase). Next to it is how much you can trust the article:

Unverified articles also display a warning on a separate line. Treat them with caution: they may contain errors in tones and meanings.
Articles from the thai-language.com dictionary are shown without a mark — this is the source material on which the dictionary is built.

Components
What the word is made of. Each part is a separate card: Thai spelling, reading, part of speech, meaning in two languages, and the tone with an explanation.
Parts that are in the dictionary are clickable — you can dive into any of them. This is the most useful block for long words: Thai compound words are usually assembled from simple ones, and by analyzing two or three of them, you will start to guess the meanings of new ones.
Meaning
A short formulation of what the word means. In two languages at once: yours first, then the second. → Russian and English together
Below this, there may sometimes be a grammatical note — for example, that the word is used only in a specific construction.
Meanings
The same as above, but in detail and by part of speech. Each card is one meaning:
- part of speech as a separate label;
- register — formal, colloquial, vulgar;
- classifier — the Thai counting word that must be used when counting objects of this type. For non-native speakers, this is an unfamiliar category, and it is best to memorize the classifier together with the word;
- meaning in two languages, with a note if necessary;
- examples — sentences with translations.
This block only appears for articles assembled by AI. Older dictionary articles do not have it.
Examples
Sentences containing this word, each with a translation into both languages.
To the right of each example is a ⊞ icon — "break this sentence into dictionary words." It opens the sentence in an analysis where each word is shown individually. If an example is not clear as a whole, start here. → Phrase analysis
Royal Institute Dictionary
A translated article from the academic dictionary of the Thai language (พจนานุกรม ฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสภา) — this is a normative source, similar to a standard authoritative dictionary.
Inside: reading, meanings by part of speech with labels (style, dialect, field of use), examples, "See also," and etymology. At the bottom of the block is the source attribution.
This block is not available for all words. If it is present, trust it over the rest of the article in case of discrepancies: it is the only source on the page that has undergone academic editing.
Other AI Sections
Additional analyses, each addressing a specific question — for example, the word's connection to Khmer, Lao, or Sanskrit. A section may already be generated (in which case it is shown collapsed) or suggested via a Generate "..." button — then you can request it yourself.
Some of these sections are public and appear for everyone, while others are private and are visible via a special link or after subscribing in the Profile. → AI word analysis

Words related to this one by meaning, grouped by type of connection: Synonyms, Antonyms, Formal forms, Colloquial forms, See also.
The most useful are the "formal / colloquial" pairs: in Thai, the choice of register is more noticeable than in English or Russian, and using a formal word in a casual conversation is a noticeable mistake.
Connections are added by users via the + Add connection button; for a new connection, the AI will later add a short comparison explaining exactly how the words differ.
Suggest an Example
At the bottom is a collapsed + Suggest an example form. If you encounter a good sentence with this word, add it: the Thai sentence and a translation into Russian or English. Examples undergo moderation. → How to help the project
Service Line
At the very bottom is the article number, the number in the original dictionary (if the article is from there), and the source label: tlcom (thai-language.com dictionary), royin (Royal Institute), ai (AI analysis), import (user import). What Might Be Missing
Do not be alarmed by empty spaces. A short function word will not have components or etymology. An old dictionary article will not have a "Meanings" block. A rare word may have neither examples nor audio.
